Natural convection in enclosures occurs in numerous applications
and has been studied extensively in the literature. In contrast,
there is rather little work with open cavities, which constitute
another important application area. Natural convection in open
cavities is relevant in several thermal engineering applications.
Some examples include the cooling of electronic devices and the
design of solar concentrators receivers, among others.
