Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) is attractive material due to its
mechanical properties, chemical stability, and adequate level of oxygenion
conductivity in both oxidizing and reducing environment. Gel casting
method had been widely used to fabricate YSZ ceramics to get near net
shape ceramics. The common gel casting involves the use of un-eco friend
materials such as monomers, dispersants, initiators and catalysts. The aim
of the current work is to develop a green method for the manufacturing of
YSZ by the gel casting.
In the current work, agar-agar type I has been used, as natural gelling
agent, without the addition of cross linker, dispersants, initiators and
catalysts. The thermal activations process has been used for gel formation.
The percent of agar and the solid to liquid ratio have been optimized to get
a higher mechanical strength with maximum surface finishing.
