Curricular Objectives
By the end of this session students are expected to:
Theory
1. Outline the location, and surface anatomy of the abdominal viscera
2. Name the three parts of the embryonic gut and the adult viscera derived from each part
3. Define the terms peritoneum, peritoneal folds, and Peritoneal cavity
4. Compare between the terms Intra-Peritoneal, Extra-Peritoneal, Retro-Peritoneal
5. Classify the peritoneal folds and summarize their function
6. List and discuss various spaces made by peritoneal folds within peritoneal cavity
7. Describe the peritoneal fluid, it`s secretion, distribution, function and absorption
8. Review the boundaries of communication between the greater and lesser sacs
9. Define the para-colic gutters and acknowledge their clinical importance
10. Summarize the somatic and visceral nerve supply of the peritoneum
11. Explain the term "paracentesis" and list the layers traversed during the process

Practical
1. Identify the major abdominal viscera in relation to each other and to abdominal walls
2. Recall the embryonic origin (embryonic gut tube) of each part of the adult gut tube
3. Locate the sites of referred (visceral) pain for each part of the gastrointestinal tract
4. Distinguish between parietal and visceral peritoneum
5. Trace the different peritoneal folds to their attachment
6. Locate the greater and lesser sacs and the epiploic foramen
7. Discriminate supra-colic and infra-colic compartments
8. Identify the para-colic gutters and list their communications
9. List the nerves supplying various parts of the parietal and visceral peritoneum
