This course introduces the underlying concepts and principles of modern computer networks, with emphasis on protocols, architectures, and implementation issues. Students will first learn how to implement network applications (e.g., e-mail, ftp) using the existing network protocols and architectures. Students then study how/why these protocols and architectures work by using the layered organization of the Internet in a top-down fashion: Application, Transport, Network, Data Link and Physical layers.
Upon completion of this course, the student t should be able to :

1- Defining network peripherals devices.
2- Comparing the different types of network classifications.
3- Understanding OSI Layers.
4- Understanding TCP/IP protocol Suite
5- Identifying the role of each layer of OSI model.
6- Reviewing Application Layer Protocols.
7- Explaining the rules and processes that govern network communications.
8- The student can identify and commands for constructing and maintaining networks.
9- Understanding Transport Layer Protocols.
10- Identifying network layer.
11- Understanding IPv4 protocol, frame format.
12- Understanding the hierarchical addressing of devices.
13- Understanding IP subneting.
13- Defining common testing utilities to verify and test network connectivity.
13- Explaining the IPv6.
14- Understanding distributed system, it characterization, and its models.
