Power
over Ethernet (PoE)

Power
over Ethernet (PoE) sends direct current (DC) voltage and computer data over
the same Ethernet cable, enabling a device to receive DC power and computer
data simultaneously. PoE is an IEEE standard, described in 802.3-2005 Clause
33, also known as IEEE 802.3af, and allows devices used in wired or wireless
networking to receive DC power from the Ethernet connection without the need
for an external DC power source.
