The electromagnetic me model
Electromagnetic is the study of the effect of electric charges at rest and in motion.
-there are two kinds of charges :positive & negative charges
-both positive & negative charges are sources of an electric field
-moving charges produce a current ,which gives rise to magnetic field
-A field is a spatial distribution of a quantity , which may not be a function of time
-A time –Varying electric field is accompanied by a magnetic field , and vice versa . In other words ,time Varying electric and magnetic field are couple resulting in an electromagnetic field
-Under certine conditions , time dependent electromagnetic field produce waves that radiate from the source
-the concept of field and waves is essential in the explanting of action at a distance.
The phenomenon of a free-falling can be explamed according to the existence of gravitational field .the possibilities of satellite communication and receiving signals from space probes million of miles away can be explained only by postulating existence of electric & magnetic field and electromagnetic waves.
-the quantities in our electromagnetic model can be divided into two categories ; source quantities and field quantities,
The source of electric charges at rest or in motion.
Q or q ; electric charge
Electric charge is fundamental property of mutter and exists only in positive or negative integral multiples of the charge on an electron(-e)
C; coulomb is the unit of charge
A coulomb is a very large unite for electric charge.
It takes (1/1.6*10-19 ) or 6.26 million trillion electrons to make up-1c
-the principle of conservation of electric charge like the principle of conservation of momentum , is fundamental postulate of law of physics. It states that electric charge is conserved , that is it can neither be created nor be destroyed.
This is alaw of nature and cannot be derived from other principle of conservation of electric charge must be satisfied at all times and under any circumstances. It is represented mathmetical by the equation of continuity
