Diseases of the ext. ear
Congenital malformations:
1-complete or partial absence of auricle .
2-pre-auricular sinus and or cyst .
3-Accessery auricles .
4-Atresia of ext. aud. Canal.
5-bat ear (protruding ear).

Injuries of the ext. ear :-
1- Lacerations : all degrees including complete avulsion of the auricle
Treatment , immediate repair even with complete avulsion.
2- Haematoma auris : mostly due to blows lead to sub prechonderial collection of blood especially on ext. aspect of the auricle , failure in treatment lead to thickening (cauliflower ear ).
Treat. By aspiration of small one and incision of large one than to prevent recollection by POP .
3- Forgin body : hard or soft objects , live insects may enter the ear cause irritation and noise , deafness , pain and som time cauph . smooth round FB removed by hook (not use forceps ), general anesthesia is essential in children and sensitive adults useing operating microscope .
Otitis externa
Definition: - As an acute or chronic inflammatory reaction of whole or parte of the skin of the ext . ear arising from local or general causes , or from a combination of them .
Aetiology :-
1- local cause due to bact . or fungal infection.
2- General cause as allergic and systemic infection by bact . or viruses .
Clinical types :-
1-furuncle of the ext .ear canal
2-diffuse infective otitis ext .
3-otomycosis .
4-Eczematous otitis ext .
5-Seborrhoric otitis ext .
6-Granular myringitis
7-Myringitis bullosa haemorrhgica .
8-Herpetic lesions of the ext . ear .
9-Otitis extarna maligna .
Perichondritis of the pinna :-
Its infflemation of the auricular cartileg which may lead to necrosis of cartilage and shrinkage of pinna (cauliflauer) deformity . caused by haematoma auris , frostbite , operation on ear infection and other otitis ext .
Treated by systemic antibiotic , dranige with removal of necrotic cartilage , plastic reconstrection may be needed.
