Heat transfer can be divided into three main types (conduction , convection and radiation). the conduction occur through the solid materials while the convection between solid surface and fluid. The fluid can be liquid or gas. There are two types of convection. natural convection and forced convection. the natural convection due to the difference in density this mean the difference in bouncy force. Where, the high temperature fluid with low density try to moving up and replacing with cold fluid with high density. The fins is one type of the convection conduction system. In this lecture the effect and performance of fin will presented with suitable examples.Three problems will presented to make the student under stand the procedure of heat dissipation.In subsequent lectures the convection will presented in details.The flow types (laminar and turbulent ) will taken in account to calculate the heat transfer coefficient. The effect of flow type is very clear with empirical equations that will presented in this semester.
