Other assessments of postnatal woman:

1. Hemoglobin status:

1. Hemoglobin status:

Blood values return to normal within the first 6 weeks after delivery, A CBC may show marked leukocytes, neutrophils, hemoglobin, hematocrit and erythrocyte levels may fluctuate during the first postpartum days.

When considerable blood loss occurs the levels decrease below those measured before labor.
Cardiac output remains increased for at least 48 hours after delivery.

2. Integumentary System:

The stretch marks on breast, thighs, and abdomen fade to a pale color but may never completely disappear, mother may complain from profuse perspiration , specially at night.
Mothers may have some type of eruption of acne from the effect of the hormones, uncommon rash within 1-2 weeks after delivery. Other changes include hair loss.

3. Musculoskeletal System:

Mother s abdomen walls relax after delivery, the severity depends on the client s general physical condition, muscle tone, timing between pregnancies, parity and other circumstances.
Activity and exercise are very necessary to the mother, once mother condition stable the nurse must encourage her to ambulate with the nurse assistance. She must be encourage to go back to normal daily living activities.
A safe healthy exercise should include 30 to 60 minutes of aerobic exercises.

Weight loss:
There is immediate loss of weight combined the weights of the infant, placenta and amniotic fluid, average loss is 12 to 15 IB after delivery. The main approach to losing weight is the diet. And balanced nutrition.

4. Pain management:

Mother is at risk for various types of discomfort such as perineal, uterine cramps, sore nipples, or a headache, sometimes mother may be given antiinflamentary drugs.

5. Immune system:
Check mother immunization recode before discharging her, particularly against rubella. Give mother the anti D if she negative

Documentation: daily care of the woman after delivery such as episiotomy, lochia, and breast feeding must be documented in the flow chart or clinical pathways.

Nurse must make sure of the family care and mother adjustment to the new child. As well as caring the siblings.
