Hardly, barely, scarcely

         These adverbs are most negative in meaning. The main uses of hardly are;

a.    with any meaning "very, very little/ few"

b.    with ever meaning "very, very rarely".

c.    with can meaning "with great difficulty".

d.    before a verb meaning "only just"

          e.g.

There is hardly any water in the stream. Hardly anyone came.     

a.    I hardly ever go out on rainy night    

b.    She is so weak that she can hardly walk.

c.    She hardly believed what he said.

d.    They hardly ever do shopping in holiday

e.    He is so lazy that he can pass the exam.
