common & Neutral gender

Nouns in common gender may denote either masculine or female.

e.g

friend

parent

baby

child

student

cousin

sheep

monarch

Notes;

1.Nouns derived from verbs and other nouns denote agents usually have a common gender.

e.g

learner. seller, thinker, scholar, professor, scientist.

2.The sex of an animal is rarely expressed in English.

e.g

"a beautiful cat" may mean "a tom-cat" or "a she-cat".

Neutral Gender

             Nouns in the neutral gender denote things without        sex(inanimate things).
