Certain Techniques;

Techniques can be used with pictures as cues instead of words. The teacher presents a language pattern, then he points to a picture or draws one on the blackboard and the students fit the words that the pictures stand for into pattern. Sometimes, the teacher can point to objects which are brought for this purpose or are available in the classroom and the students fit the words they stand for into the pattern presented.

B. Substitution in different slots;

The words, pictures, and objects used in the simple substitution technique fit one grammatical position. Sometimes , it is possible to suggest words that fit different grammatical position. For examples;

Teacher ; He came home quickly.

Students ; He came home quickly.

Teacher ; Slowly.

Students ; He came home slowly.

Teacher ; She.

Students ; S he came home slowly.

Teacher ; went

Students ; She went home slowly.


C/ Multiple Substitution;

The teacher provides more than one cue that can be oral, pictorial or in the form of objects. Sometimes, one cue is presented but the

Incorporation of that cue demands one or more further changes in the pattern.
Teacher ; He comes home at six O clock.

Students ; He comes home at six O clock.

Teacher ; She…….. every day.
