Objectives:
This course aims at introducing second year students to different examples of world drama. It also aims at enabling them to read and analyse dramatic texts more thoroughly.
Through group work and class participation, it also aims at enabling them to appreciate and enjoy a work of drama while viewing it critically.

•    Christopher Marlowe, The Jew of Malta.
•    August Strindberg, Simoom.
•    J. M. Synge, The Shadow of the Glen.
•    Samuel Beckett, Embers.
References:
The students are supposed to check the department library for supplementary references as well as the World Wide Web for more information on the texts studied, and other concepts, literary terms, and other related information.

•    Samuel Backett, Embers.
Daily Preparation and Assignments:
Students are expected to:
1.    Read the scene(s) of the play before attending class, and provide a summary and commentary as well;
2.    Ask questions an answer those raised by the lecturer or other students;
3.    Act the scene(s) of the play in front of other students in class;
4.    Watch parts of the selected plays and discuss or submit written responses on them in class;
5.    And, submit written responses on selected topics.
Exams:
Students are to sit three exams as follows:
First Exam: the third week of January, 2012
Second Exam: the second week of March, 2012
Third Exam: the last week of April, 2012 (Optional)
No student is exempted from attending an exam. Failing to attending an exam will result in the student losing the marks allocated. The student may choose to sit the optional exam to compensate for the lost marks.
Quizzes are to be expected anytime.
Absence:
Students who miss lecture will be warned as follows:
2 hours: first warning
4 hours: second warning
6 hours: final warning
8 hours: student will be expelled from class for the rest of the year
Absentees should expect LOSING MARKS.
Marks:
The marks divide equally between the course and the final exam. There are two mandatory exams and an optional one. Each exam is allocated 20 marks. The remaining ten marks will be rewarded for daily preparation, active participation in the class, and quiz marks.
Participation through the University Website Blog:
The students will be required to submit answers to questions posted in the university blog frequently. Failing to do so will cause the students to lose marks, while posting good comments, questions, or discussions of other questions will be rewarded.
