College Message

The advance in science make the agriculture as independent technology after a long time of simple vision to agriculture which consider it as simple way of life. This scientific progress cause a big development in animal and plant production, due to importance of agriculture production in making the food available to all people which their numbers are getting more and more, the attention to develop and improve agriculture technology has been increased in recent years because it’s the key factor to the economic and social growth rate for wide sector of people. such importance require a highly efficient specialists capable of managing farms and building a large agriculture projects all over the country. The college of agriculture is one of many colleges which form the Babylon University it has been established in 2004 with two departments: soil and water department, and animal production department, other two departments: crop department and horticulture& dates palm department has been opened in 2006. After four years of establishing the college ,the first group of highly efficient students who armed with most recent agriculture technology have been graduated from soil & water department and animal production department during the study year of 2007-2008. Other message to the agriculture college is to spread the agriculture education and deal with the agriculture problems among local society to give them a better understanding in how to deal with its problems by conducting researches to getting up with our agriculture situation also by support the relations with other scientific and research institutions to work together for developing and improve the agriculture career to be suitable with present advance of technology.

College Goals

The College and through its departments and research centres aims to achieve the following goals:


  1. Preparing and training highly efficient graduates specialized in different fieldS of agriculture, so they can hold the responsibility of improving animals and plants production in Iraq to achieve the goal of food self-sufficiency , in addition to other duties in the fields of soil and irrigation management , drainage and soil reclamation problems, and at last deciding the best crop suitable to each location and soil .
  2. Opening postgraduate studies to get M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in different fields of agriculture .
  3. Presenting an annual plan to be executed by group of scientific researches that could help developing the present agriculture situation in Iraq, and solving all problems facing the progress of agriculture in the country .
  4. Applying the principle of "the university is in service of the society" by opening short training sessions and conducting scientific seminars and conferences to the people working in the agricultural state offices and other people from the private sector who are interested in agricultural production, also, making field visits by the College staff to have a close look to these fields, to apply all necessary scientific bases for field management .
  5. Attending local and international conferences and seminars to improve the scientific knowledge and the efficiency of the College and academic staff, so they can be up to date with the recent developments in agricultural technology in both plant and animal sectors
  6. Presenting the scientific consultations to the people who work in the field of agriculture and giving the scientific solutions to the problems and difficulties that could limit the progress of the agricultural process according to the advice of the Agricultural Consultation Centre .
  7. Increasing the number of scientific departments in the College to satisfy the needs Babylon Governorate and the progress in the field of agricultural technology .
